Allergen-free granola brand Nakey Bakey has secured a £100k invoice facility from the Bank of Scotland to ramp up production.
The funding came after Nakey Bakey won ScotMid’s Scottish Favourites competition, securing a listing in the symbol’s Co-op stores across Scotland and distribution through wholesaler JW Filshill.
Nakey Bakey will use the facility to help it invest in stock, increase production capacity at its dedicated Glenrothes facility, and manage the longer payment terms common in larger retail contracts.
Megan Murrie founded the business in 2023 as a home kitchen project, before launching under the Nakey Bakey brand in 2024.
A sufferer of endometriosis and a nut allergy, Murrie had been frustrated by what she felt was a lack of allergen-free, naturally made and low-sugar products available at supermarkets.
The brand’s products are free from all 14 major allergens and are naturally sweetened with fruit.
“What began as a personal solution quickly became something much bigger, showing me that many others were looking for the same thing. My family and friends encouraged me to pursue it as a business, and the response since then has shown just how much demand there is for genuinely healthy, allergen-free food,” said Murrie.
“Securing our first major retail listing in Scotmid Co-op stores is a huge milestone for Nakey Bakey. It’s incredibly rewarding to see something that started in my kitchen now on supermarket shelves and the support from Bank of Scotland has given me the confidence and funding to take those next steps. This really is just the beginning for Nakey Bakey.”
Bank of Scotland relationship manager Steven Anderson added that Murrie had built an “impressive business” by turning personal experience to her advantage.
“Nakey Bakey’s expansion is a testament to that entrepreneurial vision, and we’re pleased to be supporting the business as it scales and pursues its next stage of growth.”
