In the UK, sales grew 7% to £93m

Caffè Nero owner The Nero Group has posted record sales of £166m in the first quarter, driven by UK summer iced drinks sales.

For the three months to August 2025, the group delivered 9% year-on-year sales growth with like-for-like sales up 6%.

It said this “strong sales growth” was experienced in all territories, with standout markets including Turkey, Sweden, Ireland, the US, the UK and Cyprus.

In each of these territories, the group “outperformed the food and beverage market and continued to gain market share,” Caffè Nero said. Customer numbers were also up year on year over the period.

In the UK, sales grew by 7% to £93m, driven by iced drinks sales, which rose by 49% year on year. Caffè Nero added that the introduction of matcha was a “great success” in the summer, selling 1.3 million units during the first quarter.

The group continued to upgrade its store estate with 20 sites refurbished over the period and opened 13 new stores. It now has 1,149 stores across 11 countries.

“We have had a hugely successful Quarter 1, which means our financial year is off to a strong start,” said Caffè Nero founder and group CEO Gerry Ford. ”Our summer iced drinks campaign, particularly our Iced Coffees and Matcha ranges, were very successful.

”We are operating in difficult times with high levels of macro uncertainty, record-level high green coffee bean costs and sluggish economies. But we are sticking to our basic principles: great coffee served by wonderful people who care about their customers. I’m hopeful our momentum can continue in these challenging times.”
