The ‘Mojito Fresh’ variety will arrive in UK stores from 23 July after growers noticed its flavour resembled the classic cocktail

Co-op has announced the launch of grapes that taste like the mojito cocktail in the UK.

The ‘Mojito Fresh’ variety (rsp: £2.90) will arrive in UK stores from 23 July after growers noticed its flavour resembled the classic cocktail.

The flavour of the grapes, which is “sweet with a hint of lime” is a result of the way they have been developed in Spain by naturally selecting and breeding one flavour of grape with another.

The grapes will be part of the retailer’s premium Irresistible limited-edition range for three weeks.

“We’re always looking for ways to bring newness to the produce category and excited to be working alongside our supplier, Amfresh, to offer this exciting new variety in our range, which is perfect for the summer period,” said Kate Byrne-Fletcher, Co-op’s head of fresh produce.

The variety first launched in Spain last year and was developed by the fruit firm Uvasdoce Fresh.
