London absinthe distiller Devil’s Botany has created a small-batch vodka distilled with British-grown grand wormwood.
Devil’s Botany Wormwood Vodka (rsp: £29.95/70cl) has launched via DTC and in specialist independent retail.
It is distilled from British wheat on a copper still with the addition of grand wormwood (Artemisia absinthium) – a bitter herb best known for its use in absinthe.
The tipple offered “floral and herbaceous tones, a whisper of verdant grassiness and a clean, sophisticated finish”, said Devil’s Botany.
“Wormwood has an extraordinary aromatic character, yet it’s rarely explored outside absinthe or vermouth,” said Devil’s Botany co-founder Allison Crawbuck. “With Wormwood Vodka, we wanted to showcase the botanical found at the heart of every absinthe and give Artemisia absinthium the stage it deserves, revealing its complexity in a spirit that’s both intriguing and approachable.”
Rhys Everett, Devil’s Botany co-founder, added: “Capturing the flavours of wormwood outside absinthe allows bartenders and drinkers to explore its herbaceous depth in a fresh context. Its natural botanical complexity adds lift and character to classic serves like the Martini without overwhelming the drink.”
Founded in 2021 in Leyton, east London, Devil’s Botany is better known as the UK’s first dedicated absinthe distillery. Its products are mainly sold through specialist retailers including Master of Malt, The Whisky Exchange and Clapton Craft, as well as via DTC and on Amazon.
They include London Absinthe (rsp: £34.95/70cl), Absinthe Regal (rsp: £49.95), Bourbon Barrel Aged Absinthe (rsp: £79.95), Rose Absinthe Liqueur (rsp: £27.95) and Chocolate Absinthe Liqueur (rsp: £27.95).
