M&S has launched 30 new value-tier products to reinforce its position as the UK’s fastest-growing grocer for families.
The retailer has expanded its ‘Remarksable Value’ and ’Dropped and Locked’ ranges with more core family basket lines such as 500g and 750g Beef Mince (5% fat) and 1kg packs of frozen sweetcorn.
Moving the 500g beef mince to the value range has involved its price dropping from £6.75 to £5.20. M&S it would be the same high-quality beef sourced from British select farms with 100% traceability.
M&S grew family shopper spend faster than any other major grocer in the 52 weeks ending 28 December, according to Worldpanel data.
Sales of M&S value lines, including Remarksable Value, Dropped & Locked and Bigger Pack, Better Value, were up 20% in quarter three, according to the retailer.
Increasing family basket spend has been a pillar of its turnaround strategy for several years.
“For M&S, becoming a shopping list retailer is about offering core ingredients and products at the right price without compromising on quality,” said M&S Food chief commercial officer Kara Greatorex.
“Over the last few years, we have improved the Remarksable Value range by lowering the price of core shopping trolley essentials, whilst retaining the quality and sourcing credentials M&S is known for.
“Families are now more likely than ever to come to M&S Food for trusted value and to help them when they shop with us, there are now over 250 products across M&S Food’s three value ranges, Remarksable Value, Dropped & Locked and Bigger Pack, Better Value.”
