One-hour grocery delivery app Yuu has revealed plans to roll out nationwide across Scotland by the end of this year in a bid to “give local shops a much-needed boost in the face of dark stores facilitating rapid delivery”.

Yuu, a subsidiary of United Wholesale Scotland, is working with last-mile logistics firm Gophr to establish the service, which is currently available from more than 70 stores in Glasgow.

The Yuu platform is provided free to United Wholesale Scotland retailers, which include symbols USave and Day-Today. Several Nisa stores in Glasgow are also using the app.

The partnership with Gophr will allow for a one-hour promise for customers living within a two-mile radius of each participating store and a “robust returns functionality”. It will also allow retailers to offer a seven-day-a-week service, between 8am-9pm.

Retailers receive incoming orders and pick and pack them, before they are picked up and delivered by Gophr’s network of couriers.

The service is “looking to hit hundreds of orders per day this summer” Yuu said. To date the service has made 440 deliveries in total after quietly launching in January.

“We asked some of our retailers why they weren’t getting on the crest of the wave by moving into home delivery,” said Chris Gallacher, MD at Yuu. “The biggest barriers were having to invest in their own delivery vehicle, getting a driver who is reliable and a platform that reflects the range we have in store.”

“Our teams have worked tirelessly to remove these barriers over the past 12 months,” Gallacher added. “This would not be possible without the partnership with Gophr, we are both aligned when it comes to giving consumers a great service at the doorstep.”

Gophr has several retail clients in the UK including Screwfix, HelloFresh, Co-op, Asda and Snappy Shopper.

“Yuu came to us with a very simple plan: to be faster and easier to book with than their rivals,” said Graham Smith, head of strategic accounts at Gophr. “Our experience in the last-mile delivery space and grocery sector means that we can certainly help with the former while not compromising on the doorstep experience.”
