Giovanni Ferrero

Current CEO Giovanni Ferrero will move to the role of executive chairman

The Ferrero Group has announced a shake-up of its governance, which will see the position of chief executive officer assumed for the first time by someone outside the Ferrero family.

Lapo Civiletti will take on the role on 1 September, with Giovanni Ferrero, grandson of founder Pietro Ferrero, becoming executive chairman. The move is aimed at strengthening the confectionery giant’s competitive position in the chocolate and sweet packaged food market worldwide, and accelerating growth.

Currently head of Central & Eastern European operations, Civiletti was a “highly ranked internal leader, with an impressive track record of outstanding achievements”, said the Ferrero Rocher maker. In his new job, he would “define and lead new pathways to enhance the group’s growth and globalisation”, focusing on long-term strategies, new business directions and innovation, while assuring continuity in culture and values.

“I am very confident Mr Civiletti will ensure continuity in reaching business goals and effectively support the group in its growth objectives,” said Giovanni Ferrero. “He has been chosen for his business acumen, vision and mission-driven orientation while truly fostering the Ferrero culture and core values”.

Civiletti added: “This is a momentous time for the group, and we are ready to capitalise on the new opportunities available. I am absolutely dedicated to pursue Mr Ferrero’s strategic direction, side-by-side with him, with a very talented leadership team and in collaboration with all my Ferrero colleagues around the world.”
