Two Sainsbury’s non-food and online executives have taken charge of commercial operations at the newly formed Sainsbury’s Argos.

James Brown, who had been the supermarket’s director of non-food trading for two years, has assumed the role of Sainsbury’s director of commercial in the joint management team. Brown is credited with helping to make the Tu brand the sixth-largest clothing range by volume in the UK, and has previously held positions at Marks & Spencer, Matalan and Shop Direct.

Former director of online Robbie Feather has taken on the position of Argos director of commercial. Feather joined Sainsbury’s from John Lewis in 2011, and has overseen major changes to the online business including the rollout of click & collect and the trial introduction of same-day delivery.

Both directors will report to John Rogers, CEO of Sainsbury’s Argos.

Sainsbury’s completed its acquisition of Home Retail Group at the beginning of this month, which will see a greater focus on non-food and online.

Just a week after the acquisition, the retailer announced the creation of 200 new click & collect points - 30 of which will link to Argos. Eventually, Sainsbury’s hopes to fully integrate Argos into its online proposition, enabling customers to order both food and general merchandise in one delivery.
