The new facility is more than twice the size of Bart Ingredients’ previous factory

Herbs and spices supplier Bart Ingredients has moved to a new £15m production facility in Bristol.

The new facility was more than twice the size of its previous factory and had been developed to “significantly enhance the sustainability of the business’ operations”, it said.

Its entire dry goods business will be housed at the facility, which would reduce carbon emissions associated with stock movement between sites and warehousing whilst improving operational efficiency, it added.

Two brand-new, fully automated high-speed production lines have been installed to increase capacity and efficiency.

Additionally, two blending rooms, technical labs, and a new product development kitchen meant that the business could “work more agilely from concept to manufacture”, it said.

The business has been transitioning its operations to the new 167,000 sq ft facility at Severn Beach since January, after rising demand saw the business outgrow its previous facility in the city centre.

It reported a 33% increase in turnover to £40m in its latest financial results, following the pandemic cooking boom.

Bart Ingredients CEO David Collard said the new factory opening was a “major milestone” for the business.

“We’re proud of our British heritage and the fact we have been providing our customers with a vast range of quality herbs, spices, seasonings and pastes for nearly 60 years.

“With this investment, we’re committing to an exciting, sustainable future for the business that positions us perfectly for further growth,” Collard said.
