Shoppers can access the platform by scanning QR codes featured on-pack across Premier Foods’ portfolio of cooking sauces

Premier Foods has launched a campaign designed to tackle food waste by helping consumers turn leftover ingredients into meals.

It has created an online tool, which displays recipes based on food items commonly found at the back of people’s fridges.

Users can select the ingredient they want to use up and then pick from a bank of recipes developed by Premier Foods chefs.

Shoppers can access the platform by scanning QR codes featured on-pack across Homepride, Loyd Grossman and Sharwood’s cooking sauces.

The site features “food waste hacks”, such as tips on freezing leftover cooking sauces.

Premier Foods brand director for cooking sauces Andrey Sokirkin cited Wrap research, which found that “the equivalent of 490,000 bin lorries” of food was wasted in UK homes each year [October 2021].

The new campaign by Premier Foods aimed to “encourage consumers to take simple, easy steps in making leftovers go a little bit further”, he said.

Called ‘A Fresh Take on Food Waste’, it was “all about championing those overlooked ingredients that often get thrown away and changing the way we look at leftovers”.

“It’s been great working with our chefs to develop these recipes and I look forward to seeing our customers get creative in the kitchen and doing their bit to reduce their food waste.”
