Technical direction 

The British Retail Consortium has appointed former Sainsbury's technical director Dr Geoff Spriegel as its new director of standards and technical services. His role is to enhance the BRC's existing range of Global Standards as well as develop new products. He has recently done work for the FSA and the Global Food Safety initiative. 

Daly new JML MD 

Household gadget company JML has appointed Ken Daly as the new managing director to replace founder John Mills, who takes on the chairman's role. Daly has been with the company since 1994 and joined the board as sales director in 2000. He became sales and marketing director in 2004 and was made deputy managing director in 2006. 

AgroFair sales trio 

Fairtrade fruit pioneer AgroFair has taken on three new recruits to beef up its sales and marketing arm. Former Sainsbury's buyer Lucy Humphrey is the new sales and operations assistant, James Tappenden has become quality assurance officer and Rachel Archer is the new marketing and information co-ordinator. 

Chairing the West 

Taste of the West, the regional food group for south west England, has appointed John Whitechurch as chairman. He is currently chairman director of the Exeter-based J&R Foodservice wholesalers and chairman of Cornish family-run Tregida Smokehouse. Guy Tullberg, of condiment supplier Tracklements, is now vice chairman. 

Specialising in NPD 

Amber McNaughton has joined flour specialist Allinson as brand manager. In her new role McNaughton, who has previously worked for Cadbury and Nestlé UK, will focus on new product development and a brand relaunch planned for September.
