European chilled foods group Uniq has appointed Howard Sims as MD for Annan, Uniq’s fish operations in Scotland.
Sims, who takes up his new role with immediate effect, will be responsible for all aspects of the business and customer liaison, reporting to Rick Turnbull, managing director of Uniq Prepared Foods.
His new role is part of Uniq’s management restructure last year in which the group was split into six business units.
Uniq said that Sims has had a long career in the food industry, primarily with frozen and chilled food producer Cavaghan & Gray where he was chief executive and had worked since 1971. He was most recently a main board director with Northern Foods.
During his time at Cavaghan & Gray, Sims developed the salmon and seafoods business, ranging from breaded fish to added value meals and fish-based recipes. He had also been responsible for customer relations with the company’s food retailer client base, which included Marks and Spencer.
Turnbull said: “We are delighted to welcome someone of such immense industry experience, capability and contacts to the business.”
Uniq’s Annan operation is the largest processor of Scottish salmon in the UK.
