Aldi UK completes latest stage of Head Office expansion web

Aldi UK has announced completion of the latest stage of its UK Head Office expansion

Aldi UK has completed a £70m ‘second stage’ expansion of its head office, adding 150,000 sq ft to the facility in Warwickshire, the discounter announced this morning.

New facilities include a “state-of-the-art development kitchen where Aldi’s UK-based buying team will be able to create and test new products,” the company said.

A planning application has been submitted for a £57m third phase, to add a further 120,000 sq ft by expanding into land adjacent to the Atherstone site.

Once completed, the expansion will lead to a significant increase in employees at the site, working across the buying team, IT, marketing and logistics.

“This investment to enhance our support functions and logistics capabilities is about putting the long-term foundations in place to continue opening more stores across the UK,” said Aldi UK and Ireland CEO Matthew Barnes.

“We have a unique business model that makes us the most efficient supermarket in Britain and we will continue investing in this to deliver the quality products and low prices that our customers have come to expect.”

Over £2bn had been invested during the last five years in opening new stores and improving distribution capabilities across the UK, the firm added in a statement.

It put the discounter on course to have 1,000 UK stores by 2022, with new distribution centres in the Isle of Sheppey, Kent, and Sawley, Derbyshire, already under development.
