Tesco has launched a free app for its 5,000-strong supplier network, as it continues to try to improve the transparency in its relationships.

Suppliers using the app will be able to view and download resources from Tesco on issues such as energy use, food waste and innovation.

The retailer said the app would also give suppliers instant notification on the latest supply chain insights and be used to promote events such as conferences and webinars.

It is also aimed at giving a platform for more collaboration among Tesco suppliers on supply chain issues.

Tesco launched the supplier network in January, in a bid to provide what it said would be “collaboration, innovation and sustainability” across its global supply chain.

It merged its Tesco Producer Network, which served fresh food producers, and the Tesco Knowledge Hub, which was open to branded manufacturing and processing suppliers, into one site.

Tesco’s Commercial Director for Fresh Food Matt Simister said: The Supplier Network has been an invaluable resource to forge stronger relationships between teams in Tesco, suppliers and producers from around the world. By providing a platform to share knowledge and expertise, we are building a more sustainable supply chain that is fit for the future, so that together we are able to focus on the things that matter most, creating great quality products for customers.’
