The shortlist of finalists for The Grocer’s New Product Awards 2022 has been revealed.

A total of 246 products went through a rigorous judging process, with 172 products across 43 categories, from alcoholic drinks to confectionery, to baby food, making it through to the shortlist.

They were scrutinised by panels of expert industry judges, who assessed and scored them on a range of metrics including taste, appearance, texture, packaging, whether they genuinely brought anything new to their category, and – crucially – value for money.

All that’s left now is for the winners – and highly commended – products to be crowned at a glamorous ceremony at London’s Hilton Bankside on Tuesday 15 November.

An overall Champion of Champions – the highest scoring product of all – will also be revealed.

The shortlist showed there was “some brilliant innovation going on”, said The Grocer’s editor-in-chief Adam Leyland.

“These awards can play a vital role in showcasing that to buyers who are under the cosh from managing inflation, but also know they need to stay relevant amid the upheaval.”

To enter, products had to have been launched between 15 May 2021 and 15 November 2022.

Last year, sausage staple Heck’s Simply Chicken mince scored higher than any other product that entered, winning the Champion of Champions accolade.
