Masterfoods has unveiled a raft of new additions to its Christmas range, with value and innovation as the main themes. Three newcomers bring a stronger play element for younger children. The Rally Selection Box turns into a race track complete with pop up traffic cones and two mechanical cars as well as sweets, while the Dolls House Colouring Box has rooms and furniture to colour with felt tip pens. (rsp: £2.79). The Skittles Paint Kit (£4.99), which joins the branded gifts range, comes in a re-usable tin with 10 fun size bags of Skittles, paint, a brush and stickers. Other branded newcomers include the Harry Potter Secret Desk Selection Box (£4.99) and Advent calendar (£2.49), which should benefit from the Novemeber cinema release of the second Harry Potter film. Revels Tube (£1.39), Celebrations camera (£6.99) and mixed Fun Size and Mega tubes (£2.99 and £4.99) are also new, while Maltesers Bucket and Drum, M&M's Rucksack and Skittles Springy packs  which were successful in 2001  return for a second year. Sam McElligott, trade relations spokeswoman, said the range, which reaches cash and carries at the end of August, had widespread appeal. "A shopper's decision-making process and purchase behaviour at Christmas is a balance of value for money and high quality gifts," she explained. According to the company, the Christmas confectionery market grew 3.9% in 2001 to more than £121m, with selection packs, Advent calendars and branded gifts the key sectors. {{P&P }}
