Castell Howell Foods is collaborating with Welsh catering supplier Just Perfect Catering to create a low-carbon menu.

The joint initiatve will focus on promoting sustainability in the supply chain by working with suppliers to foster biodiversity and nature stewardship, community engagement and reduced use of plastics.

The partnership is designed to align the different members of the supply chain in a structured programme to create systemic change.

The first phase of the supply chain initiative will involve Castell Howell working with Bryn Helygan Farm to support its drive towards net zero by 2040.

The business will also work with Authentic Curry Company, yoghurt supplier Llaeth Y Llan, and water brand Radnor Hills to improve sustainability and promote the benefits on menus developed by Just Perfect Catering.

“The sustainable food movement has become a driving factor in consumers’ decisions to ensure that our resources can continue to provide food to feed the growing population today and in the future,” said Kathryn Jones, sales director at Castell Howell Foods.

“The food and beverage industry faces unique challenges regarding sustainability. We look forward to collaborating to address these issues.”

Just Perfect Catering director Louise Owens said: “Since the inception of Just Perfect Catering, our focus has been on how sourcing food from Wales impacts the local economy and communities. Also, how this translates to an assurance of high-quality, fully traceable food for our customers.

“This underpinning ethos, with an unrivalled commitment to using Welsh produce, has ensured that we continue to lead in our industry.

“Over 90% of our produce comes directly from Welsh suppliers, and we’re excited to be expanding this further by strengthening our partnership with Castell Howell and their network of Welsh suppliers.”
