It will form part of its existing Plan for Profit website

Unitas is launching an HFSS “search tool” that will allow retailers and wholesalers to identify which products are compliant or not under the new legislations coming into force this year.

The buying group said the aim is to educate retailers on what HFSS law means for their individual store, and where products can or cannot be sited.

It will form part of its existing Plan for Profit website, which offers retail expertise, advice, services and tools that are designed to help independent retailers grow their business.

It said the tool would go live later this year.

The HFSS measures, which are due to come into effect in October, fall under the government’s wider obseity strategy, which aims to encourage adults to change their purchasing behaviour, diet and lifestyle.

For retailers, it means they will not be able to put HFSS products within two metres of a checkout area, within two metres of a designated queueing area, in an end of aisle display or at the entrance of the store.

It will also restrict volume promotions such as multibuys and ‘buy one get one’ for products deemed to be in scope of the HFSS regulations.
