Tesco axes two fake fish Quorn products

Quorn owner Marlow Foods has insisted it remains confident in its new range of fake fish products despite suffering two delistings at Tesco.

Two of the company’s six chilled and frozen fish substitutes have disappeared from Tesco shelves since the end of October - frozen Tuna Style and Sweetcorn Crisp Bakes and chilled Salmon Style Crisp Bakes [BrandView.co.uk].

Quorn head of UK category management Julian Cooke said he could not comment on the delisting but admitted that as a new launch, Quorn fish was still on a “trial and awareness journey”. He confirmed, however, that the range was “certainly part of our long-term plan”.

Quorn fish subsitute lines had brought in about £1.1m in frozen sales and £700,000 in chilled [IRI], and Quorn’s entire portfolio would benefit from a £7m marketing spend in 2012, Cooke added.
