Israeli growers have increased their potato crops by as much as 50% to meet an anticipated increase in demand from the European market.
Total export tonnage is forecast to rise from 70,000 tonnes to 100,000 tonnes.
An estimated 3,000 tonnes will be delivered to British multiples for Christmas while total volumes to the UK could account for 65,000 tonnes, a 15,000 tonne increase.
There is also a steady demand building for bakers with prices of around £400 a tonne for delivery in April.
Distributors are not just promoting quality but also a faster delivery.
The first Cyprus winter crop has begun to arrive, although it is not expected to reach more than 2,000 tonnes this month.
