Eco-friendly cleaning brand Method has claimed a category first with the launch of laundry detergent refills.

The Method Laundry Refill range, which is rolling into Sainsbury's and Waitrose next month and other supermarkets later this year, comes in pouches that contain 85 washes worth of detergent (rsp: £14), working out at 16p per load compared with 24p for the brand's original bottle (rsp: £5.99), said Method.

"Our refill packs provide consumers with a real value proposition and save 80% of resources on packaging, plastic and energy," said European marketing director Louise Roper.

The refill option will initially be available in the Fresh Air scent variant, but other scents may be introduced at a later stage, said Roper. The eco-friendly business first ventured into the laundry category last July with its detergent, which it claims is eight times more concentrated than traditional options.
