It’s been a great week for Richmond Foods’ marketing director Kate Needham.
Not only has she been collecting a host of prizes on behalf of the company at the British Frozen Food Federation’s annual awards, but she has also been working on new product development that she hopes will win more prizes next year.
“I always look forward to the awards and we really like to win,” says Needham.
“It has been very rewarding this year - we were amazed at our clean sweep.”
She was on hand at the ceremony to pick up the retail product of the year award for Richmond’s 4 Mint Choc Bars for Asda and picked up gold, silver and bronze for best new ice cream and best new children’s product.
Needham has high hopes for her current projects. This week, she has been working on winter product development for launch in October and started the early stages of NPD for summer 2006.
Although very secretive, Needham says that two of her current projects are new cone products and an own-label bar.
“I have been eating a lot of ice cream this week, as well as reviewing costs and timings for
launch,” says Needham. “New product development is one of the most rewarding parts of the job.
“To decide which products are to be launched, you really have to understand consumers and understand the market.”
She explains that everyone works together as a team to bring out a new product, which makes the BFFF awards particularly rewarding.
“We all work hard to make sure that all commercial standards, consumer and retail requirements are met.
“All our sites have been recognised for their work through the awards this year and it was a real honour to represent the company at the ceremony.”
