Britain’s biggest bread brand, Warburtons, has bolstered David Cameron’s election campaign with a £25,000 donation.

The payment, confirmed by the Electoral Commission, comes just six days after the Conservative Party leader addressed workers at the Bolton bakery on 7 April.

He was pictured across the national press stood in front of a wall of Warburtons loaves.

“David Cameron visits businesses up and down the country all the time [and] it’s hardly surprising that some wish to donate to the Conservative Party,” a Tory spokesman told The Times.

Warburtons has already given its backing to Conservative opposition to the hike in National Insurance contributions mooted by the current government.
