Coca-Cola Enterprises has added a mineral-bursting variant to its Powerade energy drinks portfolio to boost stagnant sales.

Powerade ION4 is a still isotonic drink that contains sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium all minerals lost in sweat.

It also contains a combination of carbohydrates to replenish the body. Rolling out now, it comes in cherry, orange and berry & tropical flavours.

The benefits of the drink would be conveyed via a multimillion-pound campaign for the brand, said Selena Taylor, trade communications manager, CCE.

The campaign kicked off this week with a TV ad featuring athletes taking on "the ultimate sweat test challenge".

Powerade sales were down 0.2% to £33.7m last year, making it the only sport and energy drink in the top 10 that failed to record value growth [The Grocer Top Products Survey 2010].
