Asda takes Chosen By You bread making in-store

‘Hard work’ pays off for Sainsbury’s with half-year sales hike
Sainsbury’s has posted like-for-like sales growth of 1.9% for the past six months, excluding fuel. Total sales at the supermarket were up 7.6% to £12.8bn, or by 4.3% excluding fuel, in the 28 weeks to 1 October. Underlying pre-tax profits rose 6.6% to £354m.

Carlsberg picks up share but profits suffer
Strong performances in the UK and Poland helped Carlsberg gain market share in Western Europe over the third quarter. But profits for the year to 30 September still fell by 12%, the Danish brewer announced today, as the overall beer market in Europe continued to decline.

Supermarkets’ price claims ‘cancelling each other out’
The supermarkets’ rival claims over price are cancelling each other out, new data from Kantar Worldpanel suggests. With year-on-year growth of 5.1% for the period, compared to a rate across the industry as a whole of 4.6%, Asda outperformed the market for the first time since the start of 2010.
