It comes just three months after the rebrand

Budweiser Budvar has unveiled a new cardboard beer can packaging solution for its six-packs of lager.

The new packaging, called TopClip, is made from sustainably sourced paper, is 100% recyclable and will eliminate a tonne of single-use plastic in its first year – the equivalent of 250,000 plastic bags, said Budweiser Budvar.

It will roll out across the six-pack Budweiser Budvar Original Czech Lager at Waitrose stores from this week.

UK MD Simon George said Budweiser Budvar had a “responsibility to take a lead on packaging waste issues”. It wanted to offer beer in packaging that held it safely and “sends the right message about the brand”, as well as meeting environmental obligations, he added.

It comes just three months after the Czech lager brand launched its new look and slogan ‘Greetings from the Republic of Beer’ in a bid to reinforce the quality of the beer and its Czech ownership, it told The Grocer.
