Morrisons has opened its first store in Scotland.

The 85,000sq ft store in West Langland Street, Kilmarnock will be followed by a second store at Falkirk FC’s Brockville stadium in June and two further sites in Dundee and Hamilton, subject to planning permission.

If its deal to acquire Safeway gets the green light from shareholders next Wednesday, Morrisons will become the number two player in Scotland behind Tesco with 116 stores.

Subject to court approval, the takeover should be finalised on March 8.
