Former Tesco chairman Sir Leslie Porter died on Sunday, aged 84. The husband of Dame Shirley Porter, former Tory leader of Westminster Council and daughter of Tesco founder Sir Jack Cohen, he chaired the multiple from 1973 to 1985.

During his time he built a non-food division and drove the agressive price-cutting campaign Operation Checkout.
He resigned the chairmanship and became president in 1985, before retiring in 1990.
