How they performed

One Stop provided a full basket this week in a store that our shopper described as clean and tidy. She said the aisles were free of packing trolleys and shelf-stackers. However, she was not impressed that the aisles were narrow and the shelves were high, which gave the shop an oppressive feel. Our shopper also said she had to queue a long time at the till, but staff were still polite and helpful.

The Co-operative Group's Co-op Local store also provided a full basket and its attractive displays pleased our shopper. She said the aisles were free of shelf-stackers and packing trolleys and the checkout assistant greeted her. But no help was offered with packing her bags.

The Lifestyle Express store did not stock branded butter blocks but was attractive and clean. The checkout operator packed our shopper's bags for him and was polite. He said there was a good number of promotions running and the store was clean.

Londis did not stock three items on our list but staff were polite and helpful to our shopper. She said the store was tidy and free of packing trolleys and that it was well-merchandised, which allowed her to find products easily. She was not greeted at the checkout but her bags were packed for her.

Spar did not stock 4-pints of semi-skimmed milk or 250g packs of Tetley tea bags. Our shopper said the store was clean and tidy with attractive displays but the aisles were blocked by packing trolleys. He said the store was poorly merchandised, which caused him difficulty when searching for items on his list. However, staff were polite when asked for help.
