The acquisition takes EG On The Move’s estate to around 285 sites

EG On The Move has acquired Prax Group’s 85-strong commission-operator forecourt network, taking its estate to 285 sites.

The Blackburn-based business said the deal would strengthen its presence in the UK fuel retail sector and extend its commitment to supporting independent forecourt operators.

The Prax sites include 65 Spar stores and 13 Morrisons stores, alongside seven Greggs and two Subway concessions as part of the foodservice offer. EG On The Move’s main retail suppliers for its existing estate are Spar, Co-op and Iceland.

The acquired business will continue to operate under a commission operator model. This means the petrol stations are operated by independent businesses or individuals on behalf of a fuel company or freehold owner, earning a commission based on fuel sale volumes.

EG On The Move said the method of site operation was new to the business. It said it would review the model in the coming months in order to better understand the mechanics and recognise the benefits.

The forecourt operator said it would explore a range of investment opportunities across the acquired network, including expanding foodservice offers, exploring grocery and merchandise ranges, and introducing fast electric vehicle charging where appropriate.

“Our business is built on strong partnerships with not only retail brand partners but now independent commission operators,” said EG On The Move CEO Zuber Issa.

“We are delighted to welcome the Prax network into our UK site portfolio. We look forward to working alongside each operator to build on the strengths of their businesses, helping make every site more effective, more competitive, and even more attractive to customers.”

Prax Retail MD Ian Woodcock said, “Today’s completion marks an important milestone for the business and the many commission operators and employees who have contributed to its success. We are proud of the network we have built and the strong customer relationships we have developed across communities throughout the UK.”

“Throughout the process, our priority has been to achieve an outcome that provides continuity for commission operators, employees and customers while creating opportunities for future growth. We believe EG On The Move is well placed to take the business forward, and we thank everyone who has supported the network over the years for their dedication and commitment.”
