"We need to attract people to the wet ambient sector through good innovation and really interesting and exciting flavours," says Nick Wheater, Baxters technical and innovation director. The new Stay Full range (rsp: £1.69 for 400g), which includes beetroot, tomato & buckwheat and spiced butternut squash & edamame bean flavours, will make its debut in Morrisons before hitting Tesco shelves.

Ye Olde Oak Hamburgers

Ye Olde Oak entered the hamburger market for the first time this summer. The 300g tin (rsp: £0.99) contains two hamburgers in gravy for quick and easy cooking. "It would be a teatime solution for young kids," says a spokesman. Ye Olde Oak's next launch will be hot dogs and buns in a vacuum pack (rsp: £2.49 for 420g), due to go on sale in September.

Princes Pole and line-caught skipjack tuna steaks

Princes is the first major brand to offer a 100% pole and line-caught range of tinned tuna. 80g twin-packs have an rsp of £1.99, while a twin-pack in olive oil is £2.09 and 160g variants in sunflower oil, spring water or brine are £1.89. John West is also launching an ethical tuna range, in September (see p28).

Wikinger Wikles

Wikinger's new Wikles range targets kids. The sausages, mini sausages and a balls-and-mini-sausages mixture will retail at between £1.49 and £1.89. High-visibility shelf-ready display outers containing twelve jars at a time will feature fun cartoon-style characters based on the sausages, and child-friendly colours have been used in the branding.
