Cosmic Crisp apples are now available across Europe including in the UK supplied by the VOG and VIP consortia who grow the fruit in Northern Italy.

Following the success of the first commercial tests in 2021, 1,200 tons of Cosmic Crisp apples will be available in Italy, Spain, Germany, Scandinavia and the United Kingdom this season.

The apple will be stocked from February to April as it “reaches its peak quality over time” and is only available in the second half of the season. In the future, it will cover the sales season until July.

The VOG and VIP consortia will be launching a new campaign to promote the apple with the tagline “heavenly pleasure”.

“A perfect apple at any time of day,” said Benjamin Laimer, Marketing Manager at the VIP Consortium. “A magnificent sky, portrayed in its evocative settings and in the different colours it assumes from dawn to dusk, serves as a backdrop for the faces chosen for the campaign, conveying the sensation of pleasure it arouses with every bite. As well as of naturalness, pleasure and exclusivity.”

The Cosmic Crisp is a cross between the Enterprise and Honeycrisp varieties and is part of a new generation of apples. The apples are described as known for their “remarkable juiciness, firm crunch and particularly balanced flavour combining sweetness and tartness”.

They are sustainably grown and available with organic certification.

“This is a revolutionary apple that our customers like because it appeals to consumers, who appreciate its extraordinary qualities. Following the success achieved in the USA, we are confident that Cosmic Crisp® is already winning over discerning consumers not only in Italy, but also in Spain, Germany, Scandinavia and the UK,” said Klaus Hölzl, Sales Manager at VOG Consortium.

The consortia plan to grow a total of 40,000 gross tons over the next five years.

Cosmic Crisp apples are currently stocked on M&S and Ocado.
