Planty

Planty is one of more than 30 plant-based business to have received investment from the team behind Sentient Ventures

A new £30m fund has been launched by the team behind Veg Capital to support growing plant-based businesses.

Sentient Ventures will focus on early growth-stage companies developing the best plant-and fermentation-based products, ingredients and technologies to replace animal products.

Matthew Glover, the MD at Veg Capital and co-founder of Veganuary, will be part of the principal management team of the impact fund.

Veg Capital advisor Alexandra Clark and Manish Karani, founder of investment firm MVK Group, complete the team.

The new fund will provide early growth-stage capital to businesses that have proved their concept and are looking to scale production and reach new consumers and markets.

“Sentient Ventures was born of both passion and frustration: frustration that not enough is being done at a high-level to move to a more sustainable and humane food system, and passion for the novel solutions that are reshaping food production without animals, and the founders behind them,” Glover said.

“While the world deals with a confluence of crises that are currently impacting global supply chains, we will support the scale-up of the companies pioneering innovative food solutions to enable consumers to make better choices.”

Each investment opportunity will be assessed with Sentient Ventures’ in-house proprietary impact assessment tool to measure several metrics, including animal lives spared, days of suffering reduced, and reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, land use and water pollution.
