The sales and marketing company, which handles key brands including Del Monte, Benecol, Benylin and Ryvita, has a turnover in excess of £70m. Beattie would not disclose the amount paid but said it stretched to seven figures. The purchase was financed partly by ABN Amro Group and partly by Timms and Beattie.
"We approached McCormick after Christmas," said Beattie."They have been very acquisitive recently, having bought Uniq's ambient sauces in January. We were not core to their business and they wanted to release equity from Jenks to finance future acquisitions."
