Enjoy! Drinking Chocolate

The Drinking Chocolate contains only two ingredients

Vegan chocolate brand Enjoy has launched a new organic drinking chocolate.

The drinking chocolate is free from the 14 major allergens, including dairy, nuts and soya, It contains only two ingredients – coconut sugar and cocoa powder – both of which are organic.

While many competitors technically don’t contain any allergens either, the brand manufactures its drinking chocolate in an “allergy-free” factory, to avoid any risk of cross-contamination.

It has rolled into online retailers such as Natural Collection, Spirit of Nature and Ethical Superstore (rsp: £5.95/250g).

The brand, founded in 2014 by allergy sufferer Chris Crutchley, made its Holland & Barrett debut in September, following the June revamp of its vegan chocolates, caramels and buttons.

It has so far received backing from two previous directors of Thorntons, including Hannah Legg, who is now Enjoy’s sales and marketing director.

New allergen laws coming into effect from October 2021 are set to crack down on labelling for foods that are pre-packed for direct sale. Currently some foods that are packed and sold on the same premises, such as on-the-go outlets, are not required to show ingredient or allergy information on labels.

The new laws were introduced following the death of teenager Natasha Ednan-Laperouse, who died after eating a baguette that did not display allergen labelling on the packaging.

FSA chair Heather Hancock has said the change would “mean more choice and better protection for the millions of people – our families, friends, colleagues and neighbours across the UK – who have food allergies”.
