The NPD will roll into Waitrose on 28 December (rsp: £3.50/100g)

Squeaky Bean has launched a plant-based cooking chorizo.

The NPD – which is the brand’s first product designed specifically for use in cooking – is claimed to mimic the taste and texture of standard chorizo.

Comprising broad beans and pea protein, the sausage is seasoned with chilli, smoked paprika and garlic before going through the same slow dry curing process as meat chorizo to help it “match on flavour and texture”.

It will roll into Waitrose on 28 December (rsp: £3.50/100g).

The innovation had been designed to “meet a gap in the plant-based market”, said Squeaky Bean.

Squeaky Bean brand manager Rebecca Youseman said it was “committed to using the latest product innovation to create recipes that are even better than their meat counterparts”.

“With an ever-increasing number of people looking to reduce their meat consumption, we are excited to be able to use our expertise to create a truly innovative recipe that will be a fantastic addition to the chilled plant-based aisle.”

It comes after Squeaky Bean expanded its range with a duo of beef-style products, a duo of filled chicken-style flatbreads and a kebab earlier this year.
