Growth at Bettys & Taylors slowed significantly as the Yorkshire-headquartered group adjusted to the challenging consumer backdrop.
Revenues rose 2% to £325.7m at the tea and coffee supplier in the year to 31 October 2025. It follows an increase of 8% in the prior year as growing demand for Yorkshire Tea contributed to a 15% jump in volumes.
Yorkshire Tea continued to enhance its market-leading position in 2025 as higher value and volumes gave it a 42.3% share of the black tea market. Its decaf offering also performed well, retaining the number one spot in the decaffeinated black tea category with 35.1% of the market.
The group also added a new speciality Cherry Bakewell blend in the year and launched an iced tea made from Yorkshire Gold loose leaf.
Despite a turbulent year for the industry, Taylors of Harrogate retained its leading position in the roast and ground coffee category with 17.8% of the market. Taylors coffee bags remained the category leader with 80.3% value share.
Pre-tax profits for the group, which also owns the famous Bettys tea rooms, came in flat for the year at £29m as inflation piled pressure on margins.
“Our focus for 2025 was to maintain the momentum of the positive results of the previous year while continuing to evolve and invest in the business to ensure we have solid foundations in place for the long term,” joint CEO Paul Cogan said.
“We’re proud to have delivered growth, despite challenging trading conditions, the rising costs of raw materials, and ongoing geopolitical and economic uncertainty.”
Bettys & Taylors is led by a collaborative CEO team rather than one single boss.
“As a family business, adapting, innovating and keeping our values at the heart of what we do has always defined us,” Cogan added. “We remain committed to creating exceptional products and delivering service that delights our customers, and we feel fortunate for the loyalty they continue to show us.
“This year’s results highlight not only our performance, but also the creativity, dedication and resilience of our people – the qualities that make us the successful business we are today and give us much to be optimistic about as we look to the future.”
During 2025, Bettys & Taylors invested £1.4m across its tea and coffee supply chain to support projects and programmes focused on fair pay and sustainability, including tree planting in Kenya, regenerative agriculture in Assam, India and Brazil, clean water and sanitation projects in Ethiopia and Rwanda, and partnerships to support women and empower communities in Assam and Kenya.
