Iceland Foods’ CEO Tarsem Dhaliwal is to run the London Marathon on 26 April to raise funds for the supermarket group’s charitable foundation.

Dhaliwal, 63, has already raised more than £125,000 in fundraising for Iceland Foods Charitable Foundation, and has pledged to contribute 50p for every £1 donated up to £50,000 out of his own personal pocket.

The money will be put towards the charity’s projects which focus on children, mental health, the environment, prostate cancer and Alzheimer’s.

He will be running alongside Iceland colleagues, as well as runners from Iceland’s supply chain partner HH Global.

Iceland staff at its store in Greenwich, which lies on the marathon route, will also be showing their support on Sunday, with a dedicated window display and t-shirts.

“Taking on the London Marathon has been a big challenge for me, particularly as I’m not a runner and never have been, but it represents what it means to be an active trustee,” said Dhaliwal.

“It’s about truly understanding the work our charity partners do, standing shoulder to shoulder with them, and using every platform we have to help them reach more people.”

“I’m incredibly proud of the funds raised so far and of the support shown by our colleagues, suppliers and partners across the business. Together, we are helping to shine a light on vital causes and make a real, lasting difference in communities across the UK,” he added.

Iceland chairman Richard Walker attempted the London Marathon in 2024 to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research UK, but collapsed two miles from the finish line from hyperthermic shock. Walker later praised St John Ambulance paramedics for saving his life.
