Gherkin brand Mrs Elswood has added a trio of mezze-inspired products.
Soft & Juicy Tomatoes (rsp: £2.50/210g), Spicy Turkish Kebab Peppers (rsp: £2/300g), and Flame Roasted Red Peppers (rsp: £2.50/300g) were developed in response to growing consumer demand for Turkish, Greek and Middle Eastern cuisines, it said.
Soft & Juicy Tomatoes are semi-dried rather than sun-dried to preserve a higher moisture content and “softer, juicier texture”. They also contain baby peppers “for a contemporary flavour twist”.
Spicy Turkish Kebab Peppers are “fermented for flavour”, while Flame Roasted Red Peppers include “fruity” aleppo chilli flakes.
All three jarred products will roll into independents, convenience stores and wholesalers on 1 February.
Mrs Elswood said they would tap the booming mezze and antipasti category, which grew by 8% year on year to £127m in the year to May 2025, according to NIQ data.
“Mrs Elswood has been pickling and fermenting gherkins for over 75 years,” said Jonathan Hehir, senior innovation manager at Mrs Elswood owner Empire Bespoke Foods.
“These newly created additions to the Elswood family build on that expertise in preserving delicious vegetables and take them into a new area that consumers want to buy and experiment with,” Hehir added.
Last January, Mrs Elswood added on-the-go snacking range Pickle Bites, in Original and Peri Peri variants.
