Food Standards Scotland (FSS) has warned shoppers not to consume whisky and gin products manufactured by Kimbland Distillery as they could pose a risk to their health.
The distillery, based on the remote archipelago of Orkney, had failed to provide evidence that its products meet safety standards, FSS said.
“Following close collaboration with the local authority, we are warning consumers not to drink any products from the Kimbland Distillery due to safety concerns,” said FSS head of incidents Stuart McAdam. “As we approach the festive break, we want to make sure anyone who may have purchased these for themselves or as a gift knows about the potential risk these products may pose.”
Products affected by the notice include Kimbland Distillery’s New Make Spirit of Whisky, Sanday Tempest Gin, Sanday Sunset Gin and Sanday No.1 Gin 70cl, as well as filled barrels and casks from the distillery.
While distribution was mainly localised to Orkney, Kimland Distillery also operates an online store, “meaning products may have been sold more widely”, FSS said.
Any establishments stocking the products would be contacted by enforcement authorities across Scotland, it added.
Kimbland Distillery was founded by Sebastian Hadfield-Hyde on the island of Sanday, Orkney in 2017 and began distilling in 2020.
The business has been approached for comment.
