Making a convenience product less convenient might seem a strange thing to do, but that is what Tesco has done with the introduction of fresh, unwashed bagged salad. In the range are rocket and lambs’ lettuce varieties (rsp: 59p) and two combinations of red and green mixed lettuce (rsp: 79p).
Paul Beynon, sales manager of supplier Langmead Farms, said leaving the salad unwashed resulted in increased shelf life after opening. Langmead has also launched Too Good Organic, a branded salad range. Spinach is the first SKU, but the range will be extended in May with rocket and a coloured leaf mix.
