Speciality tea brand Teapigs is being relaunched as a fully biodegradable product as it targets expansion beyond Harvey Nichols and delis.

The brand, currently worth £1m after its debut a year ago, is hoping to break into mainstream retailers with Waitrose at the top of its list.

The packaging for the 19-strong range of teas, which come in mesh bags, branded as "tea temples", rather than standard paper tea bags, is currently being redeveloped so the outer and mesh will be fully compostable.
