It was hailed as a way to bridge the disconnect between the physical store and online but Tesco has called time on the ‘endless aisle’.

The giant touchscreens, which allowed customers to order items online from its toy, homeware and clothes departments were rolled out to stores including Watford, Purley and Coventry last year.

But The Grocer understands they are to be replaced by smaller touchscreens able to contain as much if not more online content.

The new screens will be based on screens rolled out to over 100 F&F departments since last year and allow customers to order for home delivery or next day click & collect.
