A small Welsh bakery has won a contract to supply Tesco with 4,000 packs of bread and morning goods a day.

The retailer’s local sourcing team has contracted Garth Bakery in Abercynon, South Wales, to supply nine of the baker’s branded lines - including baps and teacakes - to 35 Tesco stores across the region.

Until now, schools have been the primary customers of the independent bakery, which also sells to the retail and wholesale markets.

Tesco local buyer for Wales Mark Grant said he knew Garth Bakery from working in a local corner shop years ago. “I’m delighted we’re able to offer customers locally produced quality morning goods,” he added.
