Tesco is looking for 15,000 temporary staff to serve customers in the busy Christmas period.
The jobs will involve working in Tesco’s Superstores and Extra stores for early morning, day or evening shifts.
Once the festive period ends, there may be opportunities to apply for a permanent role, according to Tesco.
“We know times are tough out there at the moment, so this is a good opportunity for anyone looking to boost their income over the festive period or who needs to find a stepping stone back into the world of work,” said Tesco people director Rachel Bushby.
“The jobs have traditionally been popular with students looking to earn some extra money during the holidays as well as people who simply want to help their local community to enjoy a great Christmas.

“The kinds of people we are looking for are those who work well in teams, are flexible and also love helping others and are prepared to make a special effort to achieve that.”
Tesco is raising store worker pay for the second time this year from 13 November, taking the entry level rate to £10.98 in London and £10.30 elsewhere in the country.
Aldi recently said it was creating about 3,000 jobs, across temporary and permanent roles, as it geared up for its “biggest-ever Christmas”. Aldi store staff receive a minimum of £10.50 an hour nationally and £11.95 within the M25.
The highest supermarket entry level pay rate for shopworkers nationally is Lidl’s, at £10.90 an hour. Within the M25, Lidl matches Aldi’s £11.95 an hour. Lidl recently said it was recruiting for 1,000 new roles, in both stores and warehouses.
However, unlike both Lidl and Tesco, Aldi offers paid breaks, which it says are worth more than £830 a year to the average store worker.
