Foods endorsed by celebrity chefs including Jamie Oliver and Ainsley Harriot have been slammed for their high levels of fat, sugar and salt following a new study.

A 190g jar of Jamie Oliver's pesto rosso was found by mysupermarket.com to contain 42 grammes of fat per 100g of product – almost four times the amount in a Big Mac.

Ainsley Harriott's Chocolate Heaven bars were found to contain 10 teaspoons of sugar per 100g.

"When people see a famous name on a product, they may assume they're getting the best,” said the consumer website’s Jonny Steel.

“But consumers should always read product labels."
