MPs are calling for an urgent review of how pornographic magazines are displayed in shops.

As The Grocer went to press, more than 50 MPs had signed an Early Day Motion calling for the government to review the positioning of the magazines on shelves, whether they should be concealed in bags and whether they should be age-restricted.

"Nowadays there are lots of magazines and newspapers that contain sexually explicit pictures on their front pages," said Lindsay Roy, Labour MP for Glenrothes, who tabled the EDM. "As a society we need to decide where these publications should be displayed. Do my grandchildren really need to see the images on the front covers of lads' mags?"

The EDM, backed by Sir Menzies Campbell and Ann Widdecombe, follows calls from charity The Front Page Campaign for such a review.
