Unite has recommended its members accept the offer

Booker HGV drivers have called off a strike after receiving a new pay deal.

The industrial action, planned by members of the Unite union at the wholesaler’s Thamesmead site, was due to take place today (4 October). However the union said its members will now vote on the new proposals.

Details of the proposals remain confidential, but Unite has recommended its members accept the offer. The result of the new vote will be announced next Monday (11 October).

The dispute has been rumbling on since July, when drivers at Thamesmead asked for the same temporary £5 an hour uplift in salary that Booker had issued to drivers at its Hemel Hempstead depot, in response to the current HGV driver shortage.

“Progress in this dispute is welcomed, but I urge Booker to understand Unite remains dedicated to advancing the jobs, pay and conditions of all its HGV driver members across the UK and we will fight back against any efforts to diminish workers’ living standards,” said Unite general secretary Sharon Graham.
