David Cameron dropped by Ocado’s new distribution centre in Dordon, Warwickshire on Friday.
The prime minister officially opened the £215m customer fulfilment centre (CFC), which began processing orders in February.
The CFC is Ocado’s second distribution centre and has capacity to service 120,000 customer orders a week. This could rise to over 180,000 orders per week, the company said.
Tim Steiner, Ocado CEO (pictured centre, above), said: “We are delighted that the prime minister visited Dordon today to perform the official opening of our new CFC. This coincides with the next stage of the ramp up of this facility as we move to a second daily picking shift, in accordance with our plans.”
Ocado said the facility would create 3,000 new jobs, more than provided by the colliery that previously stood on the 35-acre site.
