Independent forecourt operator Euro Garages is to create 700 new jobs by 2016 by extending its tie-up with sandwich chain Subway.

The Top 50 independent chain, which already has around 30 Subway concessions, plans to open a further 70 by 2016.

The move follows its acquisition of 45 new sites from Esso in February this year, taking its store estate to 120.

The jobs would be created in areas of high unemployment and deprivation, said Euro Garages commercial director Ilyas Munshi.

“We already own and operate a considerable number of Subway stores across our existing estate and our investment in the brand has been a huge success,” he said.

“We are committed to working with the Subway brand to complete the necessary site investment, excited about the job creation opportunities and providing training and skills development, as well as providing customers with food that is great-tasting and made the way they want it.”

Trevor Haynes, area development manager for Subway UK and Ireland, added: “The forecourt and convenience sector is a key area of growth for the Subway brand. The simple operations that are involved in running a Subway franchise and the convenience offer make it a perfect fit for locations of this style.”

The Euro Garages roll-out comes less than three months after Subway teamed up with Irish company Applegreen to open Subway concessions at two of its 95 sites. It expects to roll out further concessions later this year.
